A New Chapter

4 August 2017

I remember walking past the sign, “Examination in progress, DO NOT DISTURB,” as I tentatively entered consulting room, cubicle No 3. The room was filled with a pungent antiseptic probably the remnants of the last candidate. Poor morsel.

And then without any warning entered the College examiner a punctilious, headmaster type. He cut a fine figure of a man dressed in Saville Rowe pin stripe and a bow tie, upright and phlegmatic in his discourse: “Please confirm your candidate number.”

I knew him from a previous pre registration practice visit or rather knew of his reputation. This was the formidable Richard Llewellyn, whose erudite reputation in Binocular Vision had neutralised numerous examination candidates before me.

Needless to say, I passed and kept in regular contact with my examiner, teacher and mentor. I moved to Newcastle upon Tyne and pursued postgraduate qualifications and entered the world of independent practice building a dynamic management team whose vision was to tackle gross social health inequalities. Concept Eye Clinic was borne in 2006 with its single objective to serve people; all people regardless of their status in life.

Over the years, I have visited Turners on numerous occasions and, each time received by Richard and his team with generosity and familial hospitality. I was impressed that this was the same care and consideration that was extended to all of his clients. I am privileged to inherit a talented team and look forward to continuing to serve Bridgwater with outstanding eye-care.
