VDU EXAMINATION

WORK ON A VISUAL DISPLAY UNIT?

If you experience dry eyes, eyestrain, headaches, or difficulty focusing after—or during—screen time, you may be suffering from Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS). This can be assessed during your eye examination, where we’ll guide you on effective measures to prevent further strain.

Here are some simple steps to ease the strain:

  • Take regular breaks: Every 20 minutes, look away from your screen for 20 seconds. This reduces the strain on your eyes and helps refresh them.
  • Adjust your screen settings: Most monitors let you adjust contrast and brightness. Find a setting that feels comfortable and reduces stress on your eyes. You can also increase the font size or zoom in to make reading easier.
  • Avoid glare: Check for any bright lights or reflections around your screen. Reducing glare can make a world of difference in eye comfort.
  • Blink more often: When focusing on a screen, we tend to blink less, which leads to dry eyes. Be mindful to blink regularly or use eye drops if needed. This is especially important for contact lens wearers.
  • Schedule regular eye exams: Aim for an eye check-up at least once every two years. Regular visits help detect any potential issues early and ensure you have the right prescription for your screen use.
